National Climate Change Bill on its way to Parliament

A notice of intention to introduce the National Climate Change Bill in the National Assembly was published on

11 October 2021 in gazette number 45299. The following summary of the Bill was published:

“The Bill seeks to enable the development of an effective climate change response and a long term, just transition to a climate resilient and low carbon economy and society for South Africa in the context of sustainable development. The Bill provides for the definition of terms, the application of the Act, policy alignment, institutional arrangements, matters pertaining to the national adaptation to the impacts of climate change, greenhouse gas emissions and removals, as well as general matters and transitional arrangements.”
