New minimum wage announced

The annual review and adjustment of the national minimum wage for 2022 in terms of the National Minimum Wage Act 9 of 2018 were published under general notice 1732 in gazette number GG 45882 on 7 February 2022.

The new minimum wage is R23.19 for each hour worked with effect from 1 March 2022. Farm workers and domestic workers are entitled to the same minimum wage. Workers employed on an expanded public works program are entitled to a minimum wage of R12.75 per hour. Workers who have concluded learnership agreements in terms of section 17 of the Skills Development Act 97 of 1998, are entitled to certain allowances as provided in the Schedule of the government gazette notice.
